Nationality Criteria
IAS and IPS Eligibility
To become an IAS or IPS officer, you need to be from India. But for other jobs, people from India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet, as well as those who have Indian heritage and moved from certain countries, can apply.
Age Limit Criteria
Minimum and Maximum Age
To become a candidate, you have to be at least 21 years old. But the oldest you can be is 32 years old. Some people can get exceptions if they belong to special groups.
Age Relaxations
- General: No relaxation, max age 32
- OBC: Up to 3 years, max age 35
- SC/ST: Up to 5 years, max age 37
- Defence Service Personnel: Up to 3 years, max age 35
- Ex-servicemen: Up to 5 years, max age 37
- Physically challenged candidates: Up to 10 years, max age 42
Number of Attempts Criteria
Attempt Limits
The number of attempts varies based on categories:
- General: 6 attempts
- OBC: 9 attempts
- SC/ST: No restriction
- Physically Handicapped: 9 attempts
Important Points
- Prelims attempt counts if candidate appears.
- Clearing prelims allows appearing for that year's mains.
- Disqualification doesn't nullify the attempt.
Educational Qualification Criteria
Academic Prerequisites
Candidates must have obtained a bachelor's degree from the university or be in their final year. Students waiting for their results can still apply, and other qualifications will also be taken into consideration.
